blake field - delta, colorado

What if you could trade long drives, over-priced fuel and lousy customer service for a local airport with competitive fuel prices, a central location (with unparalleled views) and a list of amenities as long as its runway? Make that deal and you’ll be headed to Blake Field, just 2.5 miles north of downtown Delta, Colorado. Owned by Delta County and run by airport veteran, Mark Husmann of Smiling Aviation, you’re sure to find friendly service and all the conveniences you’ll need for a weekend fly-in to Delta.

Blake Field is home to more than 57 aircraft that include single engine planes, multi engine planes, a helicopter and even glider airplanes.  The runway is in great condition and services offered on-site include inexpensive aviation fuel (available ‘round the clock if you pump it yourself), free temporary aircraft parking (ramp or tie-down), hangars, aircraft maintenance, oxygen service, pilot supplies, courtesy transportation, aircraft rental, AWOS weather service and a pilots’ lounge.

Grab the courtesy car and head into town to enjoy a bite to eat or do a little shopping. And if your schedule allows, stay a few days at one of Delta’s fine inns, B&B’s or hotels.  You’ll find a plethora of activities from golfing at Devil’s Thumb Golf Course to hiking, biking and exploring the many local trails surrounding the city.  Take a stroll downtown and visit the more than 20 hand painted murals and artist’s sculptures that are scattered around the main business district, delve into one of the local antique stores, or just spend a leisurely afternoon at Confluence Lake.  You can pick up all kinds of information at the local chamber of commerce office, conveniently located at 3rd and Main Streets.

The Delta area offers many family friendly events throughout the year so plan to bring the whole gang and experience a real taste of the West at the Deltarado Days Rodeo, visit Fort Uncompaghre to learn about the Ute Indians who once inhabited our area or wander through the local museum where you can explore all facets of our local history.

If aviation is your passion, pastime or hobby be sure to put Blake Field on your list of destinations, get to know the friendly folks that are on hand to welcome you and spend a little time exploring the Delta, Colorado area.
